Founded in California in 2016 by Vicki Lobo, Knock Knock Angels is a non-profit organization that has expanded into Washington and Colorado. Scott Matthias and Barrett Miller lead the chapter in Colorado, which began operations in 2021. Their mission is to empower newly housed individuals by providing them with essential home furnishings for a hopeful start. Since its inception in Colorado, the organization has transformed the lives of over 30 individuals and families, helping them settle into their homes with comfortable furnishings.
Scott Matthias, a Realtor® at Madison and Company Properties, dedicates himself to the success of this organization. He notes, “It’s a lot of hard work,” but finds great fulfillment when a veteran expresses gratitude, saying, “I was hoping to get a couch and a bed, but Knock Knock Angels turned my empty apartment into a fully furnished home!”
Knock Knock Angels assists newly housed individuals and families who have recently transitioned out of homelessness by offering a “makeover” that includes essential furnishings and supplies to turn a house into a home. Their primary focus is on helping veterans, single mothers, and seniors. The HUD-VASH (Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing) program identifies those in need and refers them to Knock Knock Angels.
The recipients feel the overall impact of Knock Knock Angels by providing:
- Supplying essential living items
- Offering resources for sustainability through partnerships and programs
- Providing random acts of kindness
- Offering hope and support during times of crisis
Knock Knock Angels relies entirely on donations, and since volunteers run it, 100% of the funds raised go directly to the cause. In 2024, the Colorado Chapter has assisted 25 recipients and aims to support 36 recipients in 2025.
